Duluth, MNThe Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired is a full-service rehabilitation facility for people with vision loss and is located in Duluth, Minnesota.

Duluth has been home to the Lighthouse for the Blind since its beginning in 1921.  It is located about 2½ hours north of the Twin Cities on the westernmost tip of Lake Superior and has a population of 87,000 plus another 100,000 living within a 30-mile radius. 

The city’s harbor welcomes over 1,000 ocean-going and Great Lakes freighters annually.  There are twenty three city parks, sculpture gardens and rose gardens located within the city, as well as dozens of rivers and creeks.  Opportunities for outdoor recreation abound, such as hiking, fishing and skiing – making Duluth a popular tourist destination.  But it boasts other industries as well.  Besides shipping, there are two regional medical centers and related healthcare facilities, financial/banking institutions, support for the local mining industry, paper production, communications companies and educational facilities. 

It is home to the University of Minnesota Duluth, College of St. Scholastica and Lake Superior College.  Duluth has many large city amenities which include restaurants with local and ethnic cuisine, live theater productions, concerts, sporting events, museums and a regional zoo.  Transportation is available with a city-wide bus system, taxi service, a climate-controlled skywalk in the downtown area and the Duluth International Airport.
