“TECHNOLOGY TRAINING THROUGH INTERNET AUDIO”
The Duluth Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired has a new and exciting training opportunity - “Technology Training through Internet Audio”. This is a way for someone who is unable to travel to the Lighthouse for technology training, to receive training in their home or workplace right at their own computer, via the internet.
“Technology Training through Internet Audio” utilizes Skype, a free internet telephone service. While conversing over the internet, the student and trainer can participate in “long distance” technology training for a variety of computer tasks. Training would be individualized to meet the student’s needs and could cover a variety of topics, such as:
- Screen magnification software – ZoomText or Magic
- Screen reader technology – JAWS
- Windows environment
- Word processing with Microsoft Word
- Internet and email access
- Scanning and reading technology – Kurzweil 1000
An initial home or workplace visit would be required for the installation and setup of Skype and basic training in using the program. Students would need to have good typing skills and knowledge of the PC keyboard. Training sessions could last one to two hours. Homework assignments will be given at the end of each training session, with completion verified at the beginning of the next class or emailed to the instructor. Upon the satisfactory completion of key principles and tasks in each unit of instruction, a Certificate of Completion will be sent to the student.
“Technology Training through Internet Audio” offers convenience and flexibility. It may be the solution to your computer training needs. If you have any questions about how Internet Audio works or about the Lighthouse’s Technology Training Program, please call Peggy or Randy at (218) 624-4828 for assistance.
